Crickets Program
Crickets is the 11 to 24 month program at the Pemberton Children’s Centre, where up to 12 children come to play and learn.
Joining childcare for the first time can be an emotional time for both parents and children. The staff in the Cricket’s program are dedicated to making this transition as worry free as possible for families. To help with this transition we use the “penguin” program.
Each new child will have a “penguin”, this is a teacher that will comfort the child throughout the day. By having a “penguin”, the child is better able to create trust and a bond with one adult while adjusting to the business of the room.
Crickets is a play based program where children are offered challenges based on their interests. Throughout the day the teachers offer the children a variety of activities during our daily routine. During drop-off Crickets offers children a free play period where they can join the room at their own pace. Free play includes snuggles and story time and playing with toys (a turn taking and sharing opportunity). Circle times are done while the children sit and wait to wash hands. Small group activities are set up for children to join as they wake up after nap. Children are never forced to join an activity, but are encouraged through positive support to try an activity.
The Cricket’s classroom is set up to create an environment to support the personal growth of each child. Each child grows at their own pace and the staff at the Pemberton Children’s Centre are here to support that growth. Children are encouraged to learn to dress themselves (with help when needed), try potty learning when they show interest and signs of readiness, and transition to mat sleeping as they become closer to the age of transition to the next program.
